INEC Declares Winner In Benue, Three Weeks Before Elections

BENUE –

 

WITH three long weeks to the commencement of the 2015 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission –INEC, has declared a candidate, winner.

Christian Adabah Abah of the People’s Democratic Party –PDP, has been declared as the winner of the 2015 National Assembly election in Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadigbo Federal Constituency of Benue State.

INEC cited Section 41 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), as it declares the aspiring lawmaker the winner of the constituency.

“If after expiration of time for delivering of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidates and the extension of time as provided for in this Act there is only one person whose name is validly nominated in respect of an election, other than to the office of the President or Governor, that person shall be declared electe,’’ INEC explained.

Abah was the only validly-nominated candidate in his constituency as at the close of candidate submission process after defeating incumbent lawmaker representing the federal constituency, Hon. Hassan Saleh.
