THE scheduled press briefing on the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission –INEC, for the upcoming general elections has been canceled.
INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, was expected to clear the air on speculations going round that the elections would be postpone at aborted briefing.
Sixteen out of the 24 registered political parties in the country had called for the postponement of the elections to enable the electoral body ample time to solve its logistic problems, which includes the distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards –PVC.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress –APC, has consistently kicked against the postponement.
Although, INEC has said that there was no plan on its part, to postpone the polls, but there are indications that the commission may be forced to shift the February elections.
The Council of State is expected to deliberate on election matters in a meeting Thursday.
The council, which is said to have been conveyed by president Goodluck Jonathan, will deliberate on the possibility of shifting the election to a new date.
