THE Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin -UNIBEN, Prof. Faraday Orumwense has encouraged universities to refocus their research to provide jobs for unemployed youths.
Professor Orumwense said university dons needed to make their research focus industry driven in order to create jobs for unemployed graduates in the country.
The UNIBEN Vice-Chancellor, who spoke at a two-day Academia-Industry Engagement workshop organised by the University in collaboration with the Lancaster University, United Kingdom, emphasized the need for university dons to key into the efforts by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to create jobs for Nigerians.
“This in my view is the panacea for the age-long problem of unemployment, which appears to have defiled all known solutions in Nigeria. The urgent need to fast track the growth and development of our industries on a sustainable basis has become quite obvious,’’ Orumwense said.
