THE chief coach of the Nigerian national football team has been banned from soccer for a year for taking money from reporters posing as football agents.

Salisu Yusuf was secretly filmed accepting $1,000 to pick players for the 2018 African Nations Championship.

The video was recorded by Ghanaian undercover reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

NFF spokesperson, Demola Olajire, in a statement, said that the federation had accepted the report and approved recommendation by its Ethics Committee that Yusuf be suspended.

Olajire also said that the incident has had a damaging effect on the reputation and integrity of Nigerian football.

Yusuf has also been asked to pay a fine of $5,000 to the Federation within three months.

Nigeria finished as runners up to eventual winners Ghana, after losing 4-1 in the final.
