THE Women’s Refugee Commission has filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security’s Offices of Inspector General, asking it to investigate the case of an migrant, who was sent back to Mexico after being separated from his son by U.S Immigration officials.
Marcelo, a Guatemalan migrant was accused of lying about being the father of his 15-year-old son, Byron, after crossing the border in May.
The Women’s Refugee Commission claimed in the complaint, which was announced Tuesday that immigration officials also “humiliated” Marcelo and threw Byron’s birth certificate in the garbage.

Marcelo was sent back to Mexico “without ever having received any explanation or warning for the separation or his placement” in the return-to-Mexico program.
