EMBATTLED former Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode’s perceived political turmoil took a new turn on Tuesday as agents of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission – EFCC, stormed the Epe, Lagos residence of the vociferous politician.
Viral videos on social media while the ‘’raid’’ was going on appear to show loyalists of the former Governor resisting all attempts by security agents to gain access to Ambode’s hometown of Epe, thereby thwarting the search process at around 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday’s action by the EFCC follows reports, recently suggesting that the anti-graft agency had frozen three bank accounts linked to Ambode. In all, the sum of N9.9bn were said to be in the accounts.
It would be recalled that, the immediate past Governor denied links to any of the accounts whilst also debunking allegations of corrupt practices while in office.
In a statement on Tuesday, the EFCC said whatever it was doing with regards to the investigation “is in line with its mandate and the rule of law.”
