36 People Dead as Passenger Cargo Sinks in DR Congo

AT least 36 people are missing after a boat carrying passengers and cargo capsized in the Congo River near Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital, Kinshasa.

The vessel had departed from Mai-Ndombe province in DR Congo’s northwest and was bound for Kinshasa when it sank near the commune of Maluku in the early hours of Sunday.

Authorities said About 76 had been rescued out of an estimated 102 passengers.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated, according to police.
