LIVERPOOL’S Sadio Mane faces stiff competition from teammate, Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Riyadh Mahrez as CAF announces African Player of the Year in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday.
This year’s favorite, Mane, helped Liverpool to glory in the UEFA Champions League, European Super Cup and Club World Cup. He finished last season as joint Premier League top scorer with 22 goals alongside Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, in an all African affair.
The Senegalese forward also led the Teranga Lions to a second-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Current Salah African footballer of the year, Sallah, who won won the same trophies as Mane at club level, could not help Egypt beyond the Round of 16 at the last AFCON.
Algerian Mahrez helped City as they as they won the Premier League title last season. The forward was also prominent as Algeria beat Mane’s Senegal in the final to lift the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
