THE decision to close the border by the Buhari administration has reduced the rate of smuggling of textile fabrics into Nigeria, a top member of opposition Peoples Democratic Party – PDP, has said.
Senator Walid Jibrin, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, told reporters in Kaduna that the inability to smuggle textile fabric into Nigeria was a plus for President Muhammadu as the current administration worked towards reviving the textile industry.
The Second Republic senator described smuggling as one of the major challenges militating against textile industry in Nigeria.
Jubrin added that the textile sector welcomed the border closure by the Federal Government.
He was speaking in his capacity as the new Life Patron of the Nigeria Textiles Manufacturers Association.
