TWO hundred people have died of coronavirus-related complications in Nigeria so far, authorities said on Wednesday.
According to information displayed on its Twitter handle, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control revealed that the country recorded 284 new cases of the deadly disease as of Wednesday May 20th.
“On the 20th of May 2020, 284 new confirmed cases and eight deaths were recorded in Nigeria,’’ NCDC said.
The center however, noted that no new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
Wednesday’s figures brought the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 6,677.
The NCDC said 1, 840 cases have been discharged and 200 deaths recorded were from 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The 284 new cases are reported from 13 states- Lagos (199), Rivers(26), Oyo(19), FCT(eight), Borno (eight), Plateau(seven), Jigawa (six), Kano (five), Abia(two), Ekiti(one), Delta(one), Kwara (one), Taraba (one).”
Information on the NCDC’s website also indicated that 40 out of the 200 deaths across Nigeria were recorded in Lagos state.
Others are: Kano, 36; FCT, 9; Katsina, 13; Borno, 24; Bauchi 5; Jigawa, 3, Ogun, 6; Kaduna, 4; Oyo, 4; Gombe, 3; Sokoto, 13; Edo, 6; Zamfara, 5; Kwara, 1.
Four deaths were also recorded in Rivers and Osun states respectively. Others are: Plateau, 1; Kebbi, 4; Yobe, 1; Nasarawa, 1; Delta, 6; Niger, 1; Ondo, 1; Ekiti, and Akwa Ibom recorded two deaths each.
