THE Edo state government now has the backing of the Nigeria Police Force – NPF, for its community policing scheme, Governor Godwin Obaseki has announced.
Speaking at the inauguration of the State Community Policing Advisory Committee – SCPAC, and Edo State Community Policing Committee – SCPC, Governor Obaseki said the state government had wetted the ground as it plans to integrate community policing arrangement into an existing security structure in the state for maximum result.
He said that his administration was committed to the protection of lives and property of ordinary citizens of Edo.
The Governor also noted that there was no form of invasion by armed bandits or militia group in Edo State.
Obaseki described the SCPAC and the SCPC as another step toward the actualization of grassroots policing system in the state.
He added that the state was set to be a model of community policing in the country, adding that the community policing would also be a relief to the nation as the federal government was already facing difficult challenge of funding the Nigeria Police Force due to current economic downturn.
