THE federal government has set aside N600 billion as loan support to farmers across the Nigeria as part of efforts to boost the country’s agricultural sector.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono said on Monday that, at least, 2.4 million farmers would benefit from the loan.
“I want to inform you that we have commenced the registration of farmers in the country. We are going to capture their information, number of farms they have and also their locations,’’ Nanono told residents of Tofai community, Gabasawa Local Government Area of Kano state.
He said beneficiary would be monitored, ‘’because we want to make sure that you utilise the opportunity so that by next year, other people will also be self reliant through you.”
Nanono said that the gesture would support farmers in Nigeria to improve their productivity aimed at boosting the country’s agricultural sector.
The agricultural project is under the Agro Processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support project – APPEALS.
The minister also urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the support, which include Urea and NPK fertilizer, varieties of rice seeds and treasure machine, among other things.
