Boko Haram Releases 192 Hostages, Says Community Leader

YOBE –

Boko Haram has released 192 out of the 218 hostages kidnapped on January 6, a community leader has said.

According to Goni Mari, the community leader from Katarko, a village 12 miles away from Yobe state capital, Damatur, told AFP that the freed hostages were brought back to the village in two batches.

He said: “They brought them in two batches in four trucks and dropped them at Girbuwa village, eight kilometres from Damaturu, from where we conveyed them to the city and they were taken into government custody.”

It would be recalled that members of the Islamist group stormed the village in their dozens on January 6, killing 25 men as they burnt several houses before kidnapping their victims, mostly women and children.
