Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, -APC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari says it is important for Christian and Muslims in the country to come together and worship God in order to achieve a Nigeria of ‘’our dream.’’
General Buhari made the statement Sunday evening at the 2015 Annual Thanksgiving Service of the Lagos State Government held at the State House, Ikeja Lagos.
The former head of State said he has always believed in freedom of religion all his life, adding that every Nigerian should be secured to practice their religion without fear of intimidation.
He said: “Religion must never be used as an excuse to divide us, oppress others or gain unfair advantage. All my life I have expressed the belief that all Nigerians must worship God according to their wish.’’
“The duty of government is not religion, security for all Nigerians regardless of tribe or religion is our commitment on this day of thanksgiving. We shall all sit together like this, rejoice and thank God together for the Almighty God to give us the country of our dream.” Buhari said.
The APC Presidential candidate also expressed his delight at being part of the 2015 Thanksgiving.
Dignitaries at the event includes Buhari’s running mate in next month’s election, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Director General Buhari Campaign, Rotimi Amaechi and APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun among others.
