AN impeachment notice has been served on the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi as 14 lawmakers signed to remove him from office.
Lawmakers in the State House of Assembly are seeking to remove Ajayi over allegation of insubordination and misconduct.
24/7 INQUIRER reports that 14 members of the State’s House of Assembly signed the impeachment notice during the plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Bamidele Oleyelogun on Tuesday.
“In fact only nine members of the 26 members are needed to sign the impeachment move but the House needs 18 to do the impeachment proper,’’ Gbenga Omole, House Committee on Information said after the session.
Omole said that procedure was being followed.
‘’It is a process, we are at the first process, when the time comes the required 18 will sign the impeachment,” he added.
The move to remove Ajayi from office was prompted by the Deputy Governor’s defection to opposition Peoples Democratic Party – PDP, after his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress – APC.
